The Halloween eyeballs have milk in them, and the store will not take them back
Check this one first: the chocolate eyeballs
Halloween candy is on the shelves already, and Crystal Temptations of North Arlington, New Jersey is recalling its Chocolatey Eyeballs for undeclared milk. The eyeballs contain whey. The packaging never said so.
Five different packages are affected, and the style number is the way to tell them apart: 54040-CHEY is the 10 oz plastic bag with the header card, 54077-CHEY the 7 oz acrylic box with the paper wrap, 58008-CHEY the 10.5 oz round plastic jar, 58089-CHEY the 16 oz designer pouch, 54083-CHEY the 11 oz bag tied with a tag.
They went to Marshalls, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods and Sierra Trading Post in Arizona, Texas, Virginia, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Indiana, Nevada, California, New Jersey, Connecticut, Ohio and Wyoming. Thirteen states, and the kind of store where seasonal candy gets picked up next to the throw pillows.
Two things in this notice are worth reading twice. A TJX analyst is the one who found that eyeballs made with whey were going out in packaging that never declared milk. No customer reported it and no reaction prompted it, so nobody has been hurt yet. And the refund does not work the usual way: the notice says refunds are not available at the point of sale. It tells you to destroy the product and call Crystal Temptations at 1-201-246-7990 with proof of purchase. If you bought these and you want the money back, the store will send you away.
The donut that someone already reacted to
The Better Bakehouse Snack Company is recalling Donutful Chocolate Dipped Vanilla Cake Donuts for undeclared milk. UPC 3 50041 39210 3, lot 26078, Best If Used By 9/15/2026. They went to retailers nationwide and to Amazon.com, made and shipped in March.
One person has had an allergic reaction to these and has fully recovered. The cause traces to the contract manufacturer, which the notice says has identified the problem and taken corrective measures. It does not say how the mislabeling happened.
A March production date with a September best-by is the profile of a thing already in somebody’s pantry.

United States. Jaime’s Spanish Village Jalapeno Ranch Dressing, undeclared egg, 16 oz glass jars, UPC 199284564923, lots 69, 86, 108, 113, 116 and 121 stamped on the bottom of the jar. Sold at Central Market stores in Texas and at Austin-area independents since April 3. An FDA inspection of the facility found the egg missing from both the ingredient list and the allergen warning. No illnesses reported.
Canada. Compliments Smashed 100% Chicken Burgers, undeclared egg, CFIA Class 2, national. 680 g boxes of eight 84 g patties, UPC 0 55742 58333 5, all codes where egg is not declared on the label. Recalled by Leadbetter Foods Inc.
The pattern this week
Compliments Smashed 100% Chicken Burgers were already recalled on August 6 for undeclared egg. This is the second notice on the same product from the same firm in under four weeks, under a new recall number, with the affected codes described only as “all codes where egg is not declared.”
If you checked that product off in early August and moved on, check it again. A second notice on a product you already cleared is the case a household routine is worst at catching, because the product has been filed as handled.
The other three this week were all caught before anyone was hurt, and two of the three were caught by somebody checking on the company’s side of the counter: an FDA inspector in the Jaime’s facility, a TJX analyst who caught the whey the label did not declare. Only the donuts reached a person first.
